The past few months have seen a pretty impressive promotional campaign for Peter Berg’s latest blockbuster, Battleship, which has moved me from being a sceptic to more excited than I anticipated.

All the special effects we’ve been seeing have been beyond impressive, and now Apple have debuted a new featurette that takes a look inside, talking to Berg and the cast, and giving us a look at some of the awesome explosions we can look forward to seeing on the big screen.

“Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs the May 18, 2012 release, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Commanding Officer Stone of the USS Samson; Rihanna as Lt. Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.”

The last film Berg directed was Hancock, which is one of my favourite superhero blockbusters of all time, and it showed the man clearly has a strong hold on how to direct action.

Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber (whose credits include the Bruce Willis-starrer Red) penned the script, and the cast is headed up by Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, Josh Pence, Tadanobu Asano, and of course, Rihanna, who makes her acting debut here.

Added to the new featurette, we also have two new international posters for you, via IMP Awards, one of which is the Japanese version of the one we’re used to.

Battleship will be making its way to the big screen here in the UK on 11th April, so we’ve not got long to wait at all until it arrives. It’ll then cross the Atlantic a little later, with its US release scheduled for 18th May. For now, here are the new featurette and posters. As usual, you can click the latter to enlarge.
