Megan-FoxMichael Bay’s upcoming live-action reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has had opinions divided in the past couple of years. The film is expected to hit the big screen at the start of next summer, with Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) taking the helm.

With a franchise as big as the Ninja Turtles, a lot of people are naturally already anticipated and anxious about a big screen adaptation. But given Bay’s successful history as both director and producer, I have a good feeling about this one.

Until now, word has been very quiet about pretty much everything, from cast on down to plot. But Bay has taken to his blog once more to bring us some good news with the first piece of casting:

“TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!

Michael Bay”

Bay and Fox of course worked together on the first two instalments in the original Transformers trilogy. But Fox ultimately decided to pass on the final film, not wanting to be the female lead anymore for the franchise’s next (and then-final) instalment.

But now the two are set to reunite, and I think the casting is genius. Fox has always been a great actress, for my money, and I’m looking forward to seeing her in a blockbuster as big as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is undoubtedly going to be for Paramount.

No official word on who she’ll be playing, but one can imagine that it’s going to be April O’Neil, the most prominent female character in the original comics, cartoons, and films to date.

Liebesman will be directing from a script co-written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), with production expected to get underway in a few months’ time.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is often currently going simply by the name Ninja Turtles, is slated for release on 16th May, 2014. With that in mind, we should be hearing some more casting news very soon. Definitely something to look forward to. More as we get it.
