There are those who might argue that talking about plot details for a new Transformers movie is something of a contradiction, but with a writers room assembled to work on not only the fifth instalment (which is once again expected to be directed by Michael Bay), but a number of spinoffs as well, the divisive franchise may finally be heading in a good direction.

These new details about Transformers 5 come from voice actor Mark Ryan (Jetfire, Lockdown). He spilled the beans about the movie during a recent convention appearance, claiming that there will be two very separate stories which play out throughout it.

The first will see a returning Cade Yeager (played by Mark Wahlberg) teaming up with the Dinobots and a few Autobots to take on a new threat which is heading to Earth. The second will follow Optimus Prime as he journeys into outer space to track down the creators of his race, the Quintessons, something which will see him meet up with the gigantic Unicron.

It’s the latter which is going to help set up some of those planned Transformers spinoffs.

Ryan finished by revealing that the movie is set to start shooting early next year. If that is indeed the case, we should expect to hear something more concrete very soon…
