Atom

He only got the chance to play Superman once in Superman Returns, but Brandon Routh – who found great success on television as part of the cast of cult favourite hit Chuck – is now getting a second chance in Arrow. However, he won’t be playing Superman, but will instead be the hero known as The Atom!

According to TVLine, the former Man of Steel will have a recurring role as Ray Palmer – a fan favourite character who has served as a member of the Justice League – in the third season of the hit series, and he’s described as being an unparalleled scientist and inventor who will play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and (rumoured love interest) Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated.

Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery, and there’s no word on when we should expect to see him suit as The Atom, a hero who has the ability to shrink down to a subatomic level. Arrow will mark the character’s live action debut.

Sin City‘s Devon Aoki (Katana) and Peter Stormare (Count Vertigo) were also recently added to the cast, and the third season of Arrow is really expanding the TV version of the DC Universe.

The Flash – which is set in the same world as Arrow – has seemingly opened the door for more superpowered characters from the comics to be introduced, something which fans will be very glad of. Hopefully we’ll get to see Brandon Routh as The Atom before this latest run of episodes come to an end…
