Earlier this year, it was reported that Disney and Lucasfilm were eyeing Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt for the role of Indiana Jones in an reboot of the iconic franchise. There was also talk of Steve Spielberg directing, and then later reports surfaced about Pratt possibly starring alongside Harrison Ford in this fifth instalment.

Whatever the case may be, Steve Spielberg has dropped a very interesting hint about what the future holds for Indiana Jones, and it sounds like Ford will definitely factor into it.

“We’ve gotta figure this out because now,” Spielberg revealed. “Tom is tied with Harrison Ford: Harrison and I did four movies, Tom and I have done four movies. Now I’ll probably do an Indy 5 with Harrison. It’ll be five for Harrison, four for Tom… [Then] I’ve got to make another one with Tom, so that will be five for Tom, five for Harrison. And I think I’m going to leapfrog that way for the rest of my career. With Daniel Day-Lewis in everything else!”

While the prolific Bridge of Spies director may be cracking a joke at the end there, it’s very interesting to note that he specifically mentions Ford in relation to Indiana Jones 5. If the plan was to bring in Chris Pratt as the new Indy, he would have no reason to bring him up!

When exactly Indiana Jones 5 is going to happen remains to be seen, but here’s hoping it’s sooner rather that later. Ford is of course reprising another iconic role later this year in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and one more outing as Indiana Jones would be great to see…
