J.J. Abrams wasn’t particularly happy about having to leave Los Angeles to shoot Star Wars Episode VII in the UK as it meant leaving his family behind, and he even went to the expense of converting some of his Bad Robot production offices so that later work on the movie could be done there.

This has obviously left many wondering whether or not Abrams will return for Episode VIII, but we do now know that the next Star Wars film will be produced here in the UK (and it’s likely given Disney’s relationship with Pinewood that this will be the case for the foreseeable future regardless of Abrams).

George Osborne, England’s Chancellor of the Exchequer and MP for Tatton, sent out the following Tweets last night from the set of Star Wars Episode VII confirming that this side of the pond will definitely be home to at least one more movie in the franchise. Which one will it be though?

Well, with a release date set for December 16th, 2016, common sense says that it will be British director Gareth Edwards’ planned Star Wars spin-off focusing on one of any number of rumoured characters.

With Comic-Con next month, there’s a very good chance that Disney will choose the event to announce at least the first Star Wars spin-off (with a title for Episode VII as well hopefully), as they do with Marvel’s upcoming slate each year. Be sure to stay tuned to HeyUGuys for more updates on this franchise!
