While the red dust settles out in Orlando, and Star Wars Celebration hyperspaces out of view for another year or two, we’re left with many questions. Will the next instalment of Star Wars, The Last Jedi, see an end to the titular Force users? Where does the fledgling Resistance go from here?
The teaser trailer for The Last Jedi was a fine first look at some of the bigger elements of Rian Johnson’s film. Though we didn’t get to see the characters played by Benecio Del Toro or Laura Dern we did get a brief look at Rose, the all important new character played by Kelly Marie Tran.
Teased by the director during production as something close to the heart of the film, we learned that her maintenance worker finds herself in a crucial role in the oncoming fight.
The sole image of her released thus far was revealed in The Last Jedi panel at Celebration. As in previous years we had our first look at the production via the large screen which overlooked the panel. Some of these official stills and behind the scenes photos were taken by Rian Johnson himself and can be seen in full below.
Spoiler-hungry enthusiasts will be disappointed that there isn’t much in the image gallery to point to something unexpected, yet it is always interesting to see a film this large through these tiny moments. Having Carrie Fisher so prominent here is a bittersweet nod to her iconic status in the films. That she has her feet up, resting on a console is a fun way to picture her on set. See the moving tribute to her here, if you haven’t already.
Also of note, and something not revealed in the panel but as part of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 website, is a brief image of Kylo Ren’s new look, with a Vader-like cape consistent with pre-Celebration rumours.
Here are the images, only eight months to go…
