For a little while, it appeared as if there would only be a five-month wait between the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars Episode VIII. However, that quickly changed after it became apparent that the latter would clash with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and no one could blame Disney and Lucasfilm for wanting to stick to December releases. So what does this mean for the Han Solo movie spin-off?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens made over $2 billion in 2015, while Rogue One is now well on its way to sailing past $1 billion worldwide (as we write this, it’s just one day away from $800 million). So, will the studios stick with making Star Wars a Christmas tradition or is the franchise going to end up returning to its familiar May release slot?

Han Solo Movie

Well, a new report from Making Star Wars points to the next Star Wars Anthology movie – which will revolve around Han Solo – being moved from May 25th to December 13th, 2018.

With Avengers: Infinity War set to be released that May, it makes sense that Han Solo will be moved as those two being released so close to each other will only hurt their chances of box office success in the long run. Rogue One has dominated the box office with little to no competition over this Christmas, so Han Solo doing the same next year seems likely.

Nothing is official for the time being, but we’ll hopefully hear something from Disney soon.
