We told you last week about a comic book series which will explore what happened between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awkens, but Lucasfilm has now announced the first in a trilogy of novels which will do the same. They kick off with Star Wars: Aftermath, written by Blackbirds author Chuck Wendig.

Twenty new books and comics will help to fill in the years between both movies, and this one will apparently feature a mixture of new and returning characters, as well as clues about The Force Awakens.

At this rate, Disney’s Star Wars Universe will soon rival the popular Expanded Universe which was scrapped and wiped from canon following the studio’s $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm from George Lucas.

According to the synopsis for Aftermath it picks up after, “The second Death Star has been destroyed. Rumors are flying that the Emperor and his enforcer, Darth Vader, are dead. A new government is forming to replace the Empire. But the galaxy is a big place, and the fallout of this cataclysm will affect different worlds in different ways. Does everyone accept the fall of Imperial rule? Has everyone even heard the life-altering news? What rushes in to fill the vacuum the Empire has left? And who will try to stop them?”

Disney also recently announced the title of Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One. Which characters do we most want to see in the movie which stars Felicity Jones? Well, you can find that out by clicking here!
