It’s been seven years since The Sopranos came to an end, and fans of the critically acclaimed HBO series are still discussing what exactly happened when the screen went black in the closing moments of the finale.

Some have put a huge amount of thought and effort into trying to decipher whether or not Tony Soprano was killed as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” played. The ambiguous ending has made sure that The Sopranos has stayed in everyone’s mind as a hot topic of discussion, sometimes overshadowing the rest of the series.

Over the years, many of the cast have weighed in on the ending, but all have said that only one man truly knows the answer to whether or not Tony Soprano died; creator David Chase.

He’s refused to reveal the meaning behind the ending of The Sopranos ever since the finale aired, choosing to leave it up to the viewer to decide what Tony’s fate was. It now appears as if he’s finally become sick of being quizzed about the ending to the series he created, revealing once and for all what happened in a recent interview.

In an article on Vox, the writer asked Chase again whether Tony died in the finale of The Sopranos, and says: “He shook his head ‘no.’ And he said simply, ‘No he isn’t.'” So, there you have it! The character – played by the late, great James Gandolfini – wasn’t whacked and got to finish his onion rings.

This will likely please just as many people as it upsets, but it is on some ways nice to finally have an answer. What do you guys think? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
