Robin Hood has been brought to the big screen in a number of movies over the years with varying levels of success. Sony’s plans however are certainly unique for the character as they’re hoping to emulate the success of The Avengers with a number of movies focusing on Robin and his unique band of Merry Men.

The studio is currently in the process of making a seven-figure deal to buy a pitch titled simply “Hood”.

It comes from Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott, the duo responsible for upcoming sci-fi movie Lore which Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is attached to star in. Goodman also penned Priest and The Last Witch Hunter, a Black List script which is currently filming. He’s also attached to the planned reboot of Underworld.

Why are Sony so keen on the project? Well, the plan is to have a series of movies featuring the outlaw archer and characters like Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlett. The words “Avengers” and “Universe” were included in the pitch, but whether the Merry Men will get their own movies or the emphasis will be put on Robin Hood leading a medieval team of heroes remains to be seen. It’s certainly an interesting approach!

You have to imagine that Sony are thinking of the franchise potential this take could have, and Chris Hemsworth’s character from Snow White and the Huntsman getting his own spin-off is a pretty good example of what the studio might be hoping could happen after releasing this new Robin Hood movie.
