The latest addition to the next Transformers movie is definitely a surprise as Michael Bay has recruited Sir Anthony Hopkins to star in The Last Knight. He’ll join returning cast members Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel alongside franchise newcomers Isabela Moner and Jerrod Carmichael. The movie is currently set to be released on June 23rd, next year.

Love them or hate them, the Transformers movies have been a resounding success, earning over $3.7 billion at the worldwide box office over the course of four movies. The Last Knight is the first instalment of the franchise released since a writers room was put together to pencil out the future of this series, but whether it will set up any of those spinoffs is unclear.

Production on Transformers: The Last Knight is set to begin in Detroit on June 6th, and will then move to currently unrevealed locations around the world as a new adventure begins.

With Michael Bay back in the director’s chair, the screenplay for the movie was written by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway along with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down).

Who Anthony Hopkins is playing is a mystery, and it may just be a voice role. However, the legendary actor has shown in the past that he’s got nothing against big budget blockbusters by taking on a starring role in Marvel’s Thor franchise as Odin, the God of Thunder’s father and ruler of Asgard. It was recently confirmed he’ll return for Ragnarok.
