It was recently revealed that Taron Egerton will star in Robin Hood: Origins, and we’ve now learned that there are four actresses being eyed for the movie’s female lead to join him.

Those are Irish actress Eve Hewson (The Knick), Dutch actress Gaite Jansen (Supernova), Australian actress Lucy Fry (Vampire Academy), and British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle). That’s an interesting mixture, and the movie is said to be casting internationally because director Otto Bathurst and Lionsgate are looking to take an, “authentic approach.”

The Peaky Blinders helmer is directing what’s been described as a gritty, revisionist take on the Robin Good legend, while Joby Harold (Guy Ritchie’s Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur) penned the screenplay. Deadline has a plot synopsis of sorts for the movie: “Robin Hood returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands.”

There are a number of different Robin Hood projects in various stages of development at rival studios, but it’s this one which appears to be gaining the most traction. There’s no details on who these actresses may end up playing in the movie, but we’ll keep you updated!
