Just when you thought any news regarding developments on the third installment of Iron Man would be greeted with a less than enthusiastic reception, a name enters the frame which immediately brings an air of excitement and intrigue.

Eighties action scriptwriting maestro Shane Black is being considered for the job of director and writer, having delivered his ideas for the further adventures of Tony Stark to the Marvel execs.

Fans of Black’s work (which included scripts for genre favourite Lethal Weapon and the criminally underrated The Last Boy Scout) will undoubtedly be pleased to see him back in action. You may also recall that Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. teamed up with Black on his directorial debut, the underperforming yet much-loved Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Given Downey’s current star power, let’s hope that this news yields positive results.
