Predator

It was revealed earlier this week that Lethal Weapon creator and Iron Man 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black had agreed to write the treatment for and direct a new Predator movie for Twentieth Century Fox, with Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad) reuniting with his old friend to pen the screenplay.

As you might expect, everyone started speculating on whether Black’s Predator movie would be a reboot or some sort of follow-up to one of the previous movies, but the filmmaker has now revealed that despite initial reports that he will be rebooting the franchise, his plan is to actually make it a sequel.

In a new interview, the director revealed that he and Dekker are actually working on an “inventive sequel”, adding: “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” He then went on to say that they like the idea of, “expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”

Stating that Dekker is “perfect” for the project, Black said that working on The Monster Squad together has made the prospect of reteaming for this new Predator even more exciting.

We recently looked at five ways that Shane Black can save the Predator franchise, and making this movie a sequel to the original was one of our suggestions. You can read them all by clicking here.
