The Inhumans was originally supposed to be a feature film, but after some rumoured behind the scenes drama which saw Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige wipe his hands of the property, Marvel TV is moving forward with a very unique take on the beloved characters.

While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has introduced us to the concept of Inhumans, this series will indeed focus on Black Bolt and the royal family as the planned movie was supposed to.

However, Marvel and ABC have made an unprecedented deal with IMAX for the first two episodes to premiere on the biggest of big screens next September. Those will then air with additional content on ABC and are set to be followed by another six instalments featuring key scenes shot with IMAX cameras. A lot of money is being spent on The Inhumans in order to make it a success as IMAX looks to make the leap to developing small screen projects.

Marvel is clearly happy with Scott Buck’s work on Iron Fist as they have today announced that he will serve as showrunner on The Inhumans. As an executive producer, the Dexter alum will take charge of the series, and this is definitely an interesting decision by the studio.

As of right now, no announcements have been made about the directors or cast members.
