Sarah-Michelle-GellarHaving made her mark on the small screen with a role that won’t soon be forgotten, Sarah Michelle Gellar returned once more to television back in 2011 in The CW’s short-lived Ringer.

It looks like Gellar is now hoping to take the lead in a new programme, and if all goes well, will be venturing into the world of sitcoms for an untitled series that is currently being developed at Fox, TV Line report.

The show,

“chronicles the hijinks parents get into while their kids are not at home.”

And Gellar would be playing the wife/mother.

The script has been written by Shepard Boucher, whose credits include serving as a staff writer on Men at Work, starring Danny Masterson (That ’70s Show) and Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), which began airing last spring.

The project will reportedly be shopped to the major networks in the coming weeks, and here’s to hoping that it will come together nicely and we’ll have more news to bring you soon.

Gellar has of course become a cult icon over the years following her role as Buffy, and it would be great to see her take on a whole new genre like the sitcom.

It’s difficult to imagine this untitled programme living up to the brilliance of Modern Family, which continues to be phenomenal from all aspects – script, direction, acting, and everything in between.

And no doubt one of the things that the networks will be concerned about is trying to compete with Modern Family, given the loose connections in the basic premise. But with Gellar looking to take the female lead, hopefully that will be more than enough to get the ball rolling, and here’s to hoping it will be on our screens in no time. More as we get it.
