Daniel-Craig-and-Sam-Mendes-on-set-of-SkyfallGenerally considered a return to prime for James Bond, Sam Mendes’ Skyfall topped box offices and broke records all over last year, earning a spot amongst the highest-grossing films of all time. We’ve naturally been looking forward to hearing who would take the helm for the anticipated Bond 24 after Mendes announced in March that he wouldn’t be returning.

And now Deadline are reporting that the story has got a lot more interesting, with Mendes entering talks with MGM and Sony to come back to direct the sequel.

Mendes had previously confirmed his exit, with his commitments to productions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and King Lear would require his focus, and thus rule him out of returning for Bond 24.

And whilst producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli had initially accepted that he wouldn’t be coming back, the two sides recently got back in touch, and both were keen to be back in business together.

And given that Mendes’ Skyfall is the highest-grossing Bond film to date, the highest-grossing movie in the UK of all time, and the franchise’s film to break the so-called Bond curse at the Oscars, it’s understandable why all concerned would want to have Mendes back, including the director himself.

We’re all big fans of Skyfall, and loved what Mendes did for the franchise. And with John Logan, who co-wrote the twenty-third Bond movie, penning the upcoming Bond 24, things are definitely looking good.

Mendes is set to make a deal that would see him return to start production next year, which should easily fit with MGM’s expectations to have Bond 24 in theatres within three years, as announced back in March. And personally, I can’t wait for Mendes and Craig to get back on set. Are you excited for their reunion as well? Let us know in the comments below.
