One of the best pieces of news we heard last year was that Warner Bros. were finally moving ahead on the long-awaited Justice League movie.
Back in June, we heard that the studio had quietly hired Will Beall (Castle, Gangster Squad) to pen the script back in 2011, gearing up to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which really raised the bar last year with The Avengers.
And since then, we’ve heard plenty of rumours, with the most promising (and most concrete) being Zack Snyder teasing the possibility of his upcoming Man of Steel as the starting point for the Justice League Movie – à la Iron Man for the Marvel cycle.
The latest rumour to add fuel to the fire comes from Cosmic Book News, who have reportedly got an inside scoop from their source at DC, giving us a look at the roster for the Justice League movie, who will be making a cameo, and some descriptions on each.
Now, this is understandably to be taken with a pinch of salt, alongside all the other rumours we’ve heard so far. I remain hopeful that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be our new Batman, even though his execs have denied the rumour.
But given that, as far as we know, a director still hasn’t come on board yet, it’s likely that the below would be subject to change, if it is indeed true, once that happens. Regardless, we’re always happy to hear about potential news regarding the film, which has definitely been a long time coming.
With Warner Bros. and DC finally set to enter the ring that Marvel have been dominating since 2008, we have a lot to look forward to in the years to come. And we’re hoping that Snyder is right in thinking it will be kicking off in earnest this summer with the release of Man of Steel.
Justice League is currently expected to hit theatres in Summer 2015, and is thought to be going into production this year. If that’s true, then we can no doubt expect these rumours to become more and more concrete in the months to come. For now, here’s at least one more possible rumour/possible truth whilst we await confirmation. Enjoy.
- Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.
- Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn’t really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.
- Wonder Woman: She has only been in man’s world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.
- Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold’s character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.
- Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.
- Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.
- Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.
- There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.
- Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.
- Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.
- Darkseid’s Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.
