The Oscar-nominated Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), who’s recently returned to her recognisable self during the filming of Soderbergh’s The Bitter Pill, has a slew of upcoming films on her schedule, and word of a new project has surfaced that really has me interested.

Deadline report that Mara, Casey Affleck (Gone Baby Gone), and Ben Foster (The Messenger) are all attached to star in David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which has been written and will be directed by Lowery, and is described as a modern-day story in the vein of Bonnie and Clyde.

Lowery took the Grand Jury Award for his short film, Pioneers, at SXSW last year, and developed the script for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints last January at the Sundance Writers Lab, and with such a strong cast attached to star, this is definitely something to keep an eye on.

After Legendary Pictures scrapped their adaptation of John Milton’s epic poem, Paradise Lost, to which Affleck was attached, I’ve been looking forward to seeing what he’d be taking on next, and this is definitely good news in my books. He’s also signed on to star alongside Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, and Zoe Saldana in Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace, so we’ve got at least two potentially awesome projects of his in the years to come.

A team of Foster, Affleck, and Mara is essentially unbeatable, with all having displayed such great talents in all of their work in recent years, with Mara and Affleck both earning themselves Academy Award nominations to boot (and I maintain that Foster should have been nominated for The Messenger).

Having been developed through the Sundance Writers Lab, we can quite possibly look forward to seeing the film debut at the US festival next January, if filming can get underway this summer. Either way, this is one to watch out for, and you can be sure we’ll bring you more as we get it.
