When I was creating my LOVEFiLM vs. Netflix article, one device was on the list which I wasn’t familiar with. I added it to the list of available platforms as it is supported by Netflix but I wasn’t sure what it was, that device was a Roku Media Streamer. TechCrunch have now come to my rescue with details that the device is following closely behind the new US based streaming service.

Roku have announced two media players to launch in the UK and are the perfect, high definition, cheap solution for watching Netflix on your TV without the need to have an Xbox, PS3, Apple TV, Nintendo Wii or a laptop plugged into it. This new £49.99 (Roku LT) device sits next to your TV using your wifi connection. According to the article, Roku will release two players, the Roku LT and the Roku 2 XS, the latter of which not only allows you to stream video and music but also adds Angry Birds, an Ethernet socket, a micro SD post and comes in at a price of £99.99.

Roku in the UK will broadcast 40 channels to begin with when it launches but TechCruch inform us that they currently support over 400 in the US!

Both are expected at the end of January.
