Though the world wasn’t clamouring for another cinematic take on the Robin Hood legend the thought of Kingsman breakout Taron Egerton as the titular folk hero is a diverting one.

Deadline are reporting that the film, which has Jamie Foxx as Little John and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian in the cast, has set a release date of the 23rd of March 2018.

Billed, of course, as a gritty take on the origin story of Robin Fitzooth director Otto Bathurst, known for his episodes of Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders, has an uphill struggle. Ridley Scott’s 2010 version has Russell Crowe in the lead role, and was a solid retell, gritty in its own way. However with Egerton returning to the Kingsman series his star will surely rise in the next two years, but is this enough to lure in a wide audience? We’re hopeful…
