We recently learned that Michael Keaton was in talks to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming (possibly as The Vulture if recent rumours are to be believed), but as is so often the way with casting news which seems too good to be true, he’s now passed on the role. There go all those jokes about Batman and Birdman meeting the wall-crawler, eh?

On the plus side, it has been confirmed today that Robert Downey Jr. will be making an appearance as Iron Man in the reboot, something which has been rumoured for a while now.

The last time the actor renegotiated his contract, he signed up to star in Captain America: Civil War and the two part Avengers: Infinity War, so it had to be changed once again in order to add this movie to his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances. For that reason, it’s probably safe to assume that Tony Stark will be making more than just a cameo here.

With Spider-Man on #TeamIronMan in Captain America: Civil War – that’s not a spoiler; it was revealed in the last trailer for the movie – it was always pretty obvious that Marvel would continue to build on their relationship moving forward. Sony meanwhile (who still own the rights to the character) are no doubt very happy to have Downey Jr. involved!
