X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has announced that Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the cast of the sequel as a young Nightcrawler. The teleporting mutant made his big screen debut in X-2: X-Men United.

In that, he was played by Alan Cumming. Fans have been hoping to see the character again, with X-Men: First Class’ Azazel (Nightcrawler’s father in the comic book) the closest we’ve come to seeing the fuzzy blue elf again. Whether X-Men: Apocalypse will explore the fact that Mystique is his mother remains to be seen.

In a year which will see the release of movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War, it’s no real surprise that X-Men: Apocalypse is upping it game with the addition of fan-favourite characters like Nightcrawler, not to mention other recent additions like Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.

Kodi Smit-McPhee was last seen in in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and received praise for The Road.

Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, and Tye Sheridan, X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released on May 27th, 2016. Are you excited?
