Universal have been keeping Robert Schwentke’s anticipated R.I.P.D. under wraps for a long while now, but with its summer release date very much on the horizon, our first good look at the blockbuster has finally been unveiled.
Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges take the lead of a brilliant cast, and with just three more months to go before R.I.P.D. hits theatres, the studio have debuted the first trailer.
Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.
Reynolds and Bridges are joined by Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon, Robert Knepper, James Hong, Marisa Miller, Stephanie Szostak, and Mike O’Malley.
Schwentke is directing from a script penned by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay (Æon Flux, Clash of the Titans), based on the original Dark Horse comic by Peter M. Lenkov.
The last time we saw Schwentke behind the camera was for the 2010 action/comedy blockbuster, RED. He assembled an awesome cast for that movie, and brought a perfect blend of action and comedy to the big screen three years ago.
Reuniting with Mary-Louise Parker here once more, I have a very good feeling that he’s going to have another big success on his hands in a few months’ time.
R.I.P.D. will be released in 3D on July 19th in the US, and then 30th August here in the UK, and I can’t wait for it to arrive. With Reynolds and Bridges leading the way, this is guaranteed to be awesome. Here’s the first trailer to give you a taste of what to expect.
