Rio-2-Teaser-Poster-sliceSoaring into cinemas in just a few short months, Blue Sky Studios’ Rio 2 promises to be another adventure-filled animated comedy fit for all the family.

The 2011 original took almost half a billion dollars around the world, launching a new franchise for the studio that created Ice Age. And now Jewel, Blu, and co. are back for more.

Kicking off the New Year in style, Fox took to the titular Rio to ring in 2014, and the studio has released this new sizzle reel teasing the celebrations. And if you hold on until the 2-minute mark, you get to see Jemaine Clement’s sulphur-crusted Cockatoo, Nigel, promising to put an end to the fun shortly, along with an adorable appearance from Kristin Chenoweth’s tree frog, Gabi.

It’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids in RIO 2, after they venture from that magical city into the wilds of the Amazon for a family reunion. Out of his element in a land he doesn’t know, Blu must face his most fearsome adversary – his father in law – while evading Nigel’s fiendish plans for revenge.

Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg return to lead a great voice cast, alongside Leslie Mann, Jemaine Clement, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, will.i.am, Rodrigo Santoro, Tracy Morgan, Bebel Gilberto, Jake T. Austin, Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth, Rita Moreno, Amanda Stenberg, Rachel Crow, Janelle Monáe, Pierce Gagnon, and Natalie Morales.

Carlos Saldanha returns to direct the sequel, co-writing the script with the late Don Rhymer, who co-wrote the first film.

Rio 2 will be released in 3D on 4th April here in the UK, landing a week later in the US on April 11th. And if you’re looking for a longer look at the sequel after watching the new video below, then you can catch the full trailer here.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
