Riddick-Comic-Con-PosterHaving stormed the global box office in recent weeks with the release of Fast and Furious 6, Vin Diesel will be back in cinemas later this year in another anticipated sequel, Riddick.

The sci-fi/actioner sees Diesel reuniting with David Twohy once more for the long-awaited return of the character, following his debut in 2000’s Pitch Black and reprisal in 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick.

Diesel treated us to a brilliant teaser trailer back in the spring, which was more recently followed by an epic full-length trailer last month. And with Comic-Con on the horizon, Diesel himself has released the film’s poster for the convention, with Universal also releasing a new international trailer.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.  Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.  The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal.  With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Karl Urban reprises his role as Vaako from the second movie. And starring alongside them will be Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and WWE’s Dave Bautista.

Twohy is once more directing from his own script. And Diesel is producing alongside past collaborators Ted Field (Pitch Black, The Last Samurai) and Samantha Vincent (Fast & Furious, Fast Five).

There’s already been some suggestion that Diesel will be back for more in this world following Riddick, with at least two further sequels potentially on the horizon, which is more than enough to have me excited about what we’ve got to look forward to. Particularly with Fast and Furious 7 set for July 2014 as well.

Riddick will be released in regular and IMAX theatres on September 6th. And before that, Diesel will be heading to Comic-Con out in San Diego in a month’s time, and will no doubt be bringing plenty of things with him for conventiongoers (and hopefully everyone else) to enjoy.
