As studios continue to take their pick of the best release dates years in advance, two of the most highly anticipated movies from the next few years have been dated for 2016 and 2018 respectively.

First up is Lionsgate and Saban’s Power Rangers reboot. With a story from producer Roberto Orci and a script from X-Men: First Class contributors Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, it is now set to be released on July 22nd, 2016. It is there that it will open against Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur in the already crowded month.

Why do we say crowded? Well, July 2016 currently includes Angry Birds, B.F.G., an Untitled Marvel Movie, Ice Age 5, Independence Day 2, Tarzan and new Bourne and Planet of the Apes movies.

The brief synopsis doesn’t give us much, but does describe the Power Rangers reboot as, “a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.”

Even more exciting is the news that Gareth Edwards will return to direct Godzilla 2. This was initially announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but was confirmed today when the studio revealed that it will be released on June 8th, 2018. That’s a long wait, but Edwards has a Star Wars spin-off to keep him busy!

The first made $500 million at the worldwide box office, and it was also revealed last month that the sequel will feature appearances from the likes of Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.

Warner Bros. recently announced 9 DC Comics movies between 2016 and 2020. You can read more details on those – and where Godzilla and Power Rangers now fit between them – by clicking here.
