The-Twilight-Saga-Breaking-Dawn-Part-2-PosterThe awards season is most definitely upon us, with this morning’s announcement of the BAFTA nominations, celebrating some of the finest talent in the industry from 2012. And whilst most of the ceremonies look to highlight the best, there’s always one that goes in the opposite direction to take a look at what they feel is some of the worst: The Razzies.

Last year, Jack & Jill with Adam Sandler set a record by winning in all ten categories. And this year, however fair the criticisms may be, we have The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 nominated in every category and competing for a similar honour.

I remain undecided about the sentiment of the Golden Raspberry Awards (a.k.a. the Razzies) – whilst I recognise there’s an element of fun intended, having fun at the expense of people’s hard work does seem slightly off to me. But nonetheless, in its 33rd year, it’s apparent that the Razzies are here to stay and that they are enjoyed.

At the very least, it gives us a chance to say how much we agree and/or disagree with their conclusions.

I still haven’t seen The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, so can’t really comment on any of its nominations (though I’ve heard that it was a very good finish to the franchise, by many people who aren’t particularly fond of it). But for my money, Kristen Stewart definitely doesn’t deserve a Worst Actress nominations for Snow White and the Huntsman. I thought she played that brilliantly, and would love to see a sequel come together.

It seems to show, at least to me, that one could argue that the Razzies are similar to a handful of other awards ceremonies, in that actors and actresses can sometimes be nominated more for their body of work, rather than a specific performance.

The winners will be officially announced on ‘Oscar Eve’, which falls this year on Saturday, 23rd February. For now, here is the full list of nominations. Be sure to sound off in the comments below how fair or unfair you think they are.
