Ralph Fiennes is the latest addition to the cast of The LEGO Batman Movie, with the Spectre star lined up to lend his voice to Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal butler of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The Academy Award winning actor joins a cast which will see The LEGO Movie’s Will Arnett reprise the role of Batman along with Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker. Chris McKay – the animation supervisor on Lego Movie – is directing The LEGO Batman Movie from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (The Flash).

Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, a group described as the “custodians of the LEGO screen brand”, are producing the movie, so the Caped Crusader is in good hands.

Fiennes has a very good relationship with Warner Bros. after playing Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies. The last time the British actor voiced an animated character was back in 2005’s Wallace & Gromit movie, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. While most fans would be happier seeing him in a live-action comic book movie, this is still pretty exciting news!

The plot of The LEGO Batman is a closely guarded secret, but based on how the Dark Knight was portrayed in The LEGO Movie, this spinoff promises to be a lot of fun for fans.
