The theatrical release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be PG-13 (that’s 12A to those of you in the UK), but it’s been revealed today that an “Ultimate Edition” will be released on Blu-ray which will have an R-Rating (15/18) due to “sequences of violence.”

No further information has been revealed as of yet, but it’s easy to understand why Warner Bros. would want to capitalise on a Director’s Cut, especially as Zack Snyder’s extended version of Watchmen went down so well. Plus, offering fans the chance to see even more scenes of Batman and Superman fighting is something no one will be able to turn down!

Is this R-Rated cut of Batman v Superman a reaction to the success of Deadpool? It’s highly unlikely in all honesty, especially as the studio has done this before. Remember that the extended edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was also R-Rated on Blu-ray.

Beyond the R-Rating: What Deadpool’s success could mean for comic book movies

Batman v Superman marks the first meeting between these iconic DC Comics superheroes on the big screen and sets the stage for them to team up with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash in next year’s Justice League movie (also directed by Snyder).

Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Scoot McNairy, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa, Batman v Superman hits on March 25th, 2016. If you missed the first clip from the movie, you can find that here.
