A few months ago, we heard that there were plans to bring Prison Break back to the small screen. Without delving into spoilers for those of you now thinking of going back and binge watching the enjoyable series, the ending was certainly ambiguous enough to allow for a follow-up. However, it’s fair to say that none of us ever really expected one to happen!

It’s now been made official though, with Fox’s Gary Newman announcing the seriesĀ earlier today. Prison Break creator and executive producer Paul Scheuring is writing the first episode and a bible for the writing team to follow, and it’s expected to get a full series order.

Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are both reprising their respective roles, a pleasant surprise considering their busy schedules starring together as the villainous Captain Cold and Heatwave in The Flash and upcoming 2016 spinoff series, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

The 10-episode limited series is described as being, “a bit of a sequel, it picks up several years after the end of the series.” Oddly enough, it sounds like this Prison Break revival will ignore the direct to DVD movie which wrapped up the character’s stories because it’s going to provide, “a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world. The brothers and some of the iconic characters will be back, and it will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience.”
