J.J. Abrams may be teasing the odd new bit of Star Wars Episode VII here and there, but as Lucasfilm are bowing out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it will likely be a long time before we get any official plot details about the movie which will kick off a new trilogy and a number of still to be revealed spin-off’s.

However, some rumoured story details have now found their way online, and they give us an idea as to what to expect from Star Wars Episode VII’s opening. Apparently, the standard Star Wars scrawl won’t feature a spaceship coming into view, but will see a floating severed hand tumbling through space gripping a lightsaber.

It then falls onto a desert planet where it is discovered by the trilogy’s new heroes, played by Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. They recognise the lightsaber as an old Jedi relic and so set out on a quest to return it to those who would know what to do with it. On the way, they meet Han Solo and Chewbacca. However, they’re not piloting the Millennium Falcon, but are in charge of a spaceship that the site says would be major spoiler to reveal.

Han and Chewie recognise the lightsaber as Luke’s, but they haven’t seen him in thirty years, and it’s from here that the quest to find him begins. Meanwhile, a weapon capable of destroying entire soar systems is being built on an ice planet. Whether that’s Hoth remains to be seen, but the desert planet in this movie is NOT Tatooine.

Now, one major potential spoiler is the role played by Attack the Block and 24: Live Another Day’s John Boyega. He plays a Stormtrooper who deserts the Empire and ends up teaming with Daisy Ridley’s character.

As always, take this all with a pinch of salt for the time being, but there’s a lot to think about here. What do you guys? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
