It may not be Colin Firth voicing the eponymous bear from deepest, darkest Peru but there is enough fairy tale England in this new trailer for Paddington the Movie to fill every teacup in Buckingham Palace.

Ben Wishaw was plucked to lend his mellifluous tones to the CGI iteration of Michael Bond’s childhood mainstay, and he is joined by Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi, Jim Broadbent and Nicole Kidman.

You can bet they are hoping that this film will spark off an inferno of merchandise and sequels and this is, necessarily, Paddington Begins. The trailer is actually quite fun, with a couple of neat visual moments and a nicely delivered joke or two.

Let’s face it – it has to do better than Postman Pat the Movie eh? Unless Paddington gets caught up in Made in Chelsea or something. In fact – isn’t Windsor Gardens near Chelsea? The plot thins…

The film opens all over the UK on the 28th of November 2014, so you’ve got plenty of time to read the books and pretend you liked Paddington before he was cool.

Trailer smash.

Eat this synopsis Mrs. Bird,

Paddington has grown up deep in the Peruvian jungle with his Aunt Lucy who, inspired by a chance encounter with an English explorer, has raised her nephew to dream of an exciting life in London. When an earthquake destroys their home, Aunt Lucy decides to smuggle her young nephew on board a boat bound for England, in search of a better life.

Arriving alone at Paddington Station, Paddington soon finds that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family, who find him with a label tied around his neck which reads ‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’ They offer him a temporary home whilst he searches for the explorer who impressed Aunt Lucy all those years before.
