Here’s a bite-size piece of news for you all.

Deadline has revealed that Dimension Films have already put together the creative force for their intended sequel to Piranha 3D, with the intention of getting the film out in US theatres by late August next year. Do I smell another yearly horror franchise to fill that hole once the final Saw film (Saw 3D no less!) is released?

The studio has actually tapped the writers from that film (Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan) to do this sequel, and Project Greenlight winner John Gulager is also onboard, replacing Alexandre Aja in the director’s chair.

The first Piranha hasn’t matched the success of the first Saw film on it’s cinema release (so far, it’s only made 1m more than it’s estimated budget of $24m) but international audience figures were decent and the makers must be predicting big DVD business.
