Actor Paul Walker has died, with a message posted to his Facebook page explaining that he passed away while attending a charity event at the age of just 40.

Confirmed by his publicist as well as the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on Saturday, the Fast And Furious star is known to have died at the scene of a car accident in Los Angeles, in which he and the driver were both tragically killed when the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a tree.

Walker, who appeared this summer in the sixth instalment of the aforementioned franchise, was in the middle of shooting its sequel at the time of his death. In addition to his role as ex-FBI agent-turned-racer Brian O’Conner, the actor is also known for appearing in films such as Running Scared, Into The Blue and Takers.

Walker was also heavily involved in charity work, not least through his own organisation Reach Out Worldwide. He is survived by his daughter, Meadow.
