Vision

With Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man set to return for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Paul Bettany reprising the role of his A.I. butler J.A.R.V.I.S. was expected, even if it hasn’t been confirmed as of yet. However, that’s not really a surprise due to the fact that the actor is often brought on board at a fairly late stage for a day or two of voice-over work.

According to Mail Online, the British actor will be taking on a much larger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron as both he and Jeremy Renner (who plays Hawkeye) were seen at Shepperton Studios this week for meetings with director Joss Whedon. Apparently, “They did a series of costume, hair and make-up tests and worked with stuntmen and armourers.”

Why? Because Bettany is apparently playing The Vision! The site goes on to add that, “Make-up experts were using various powders and potions on Bettany’s pale skin to bring about the Vision’s chalk-white complexion.”

Hang on, “chalk-white complexion”? That doesn’t sound like The Vision pictured above now, does it? However, by clicking here, you’ll see that the character has indeed been portrayed with that look in the comics, so it’s not all that hard to believe that we’ll see the same in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Vision being in the sequel makes a lot of sense for a number of reasons. In the comics, he was created by Ultron (played by James Spader) as a weapon against Ultron’s own creator, Hank Pym. It’s believed that Tony Stark will be the villain’s “father” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe though, so Ultron turning J.A.R.V.I.S. against Iron Man is definitely feasible. However, The Vision ultimately turns on Ultron and becomes a member of The Avengers, later falling in love with The Scarlet Witch. She too will be in this movie, played by Elizabeth Olsen.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter – arguably two far more reliable sources than The Daily Mail – are also now reporting that Bettany will play The Vision. What do you guys think about this news? Let us know in the comment section below.
