Much anticipation has surrounded the impending release of DC and Warner Bros Wonder Woman – not only is it the first female-led superhero movie but for fans (and the studios) it could mark a new beginning for the DCEU. And, if any of the early reviews are anything to go but (overwhelmingly positive thus far), it may be just that.

Which is music to many at the studios but also for the stars and, perhaps more so, its director Patty Jenkins. Though this isn’t the first superhero film the acclaimed filmmaker has been involved with – for back in 2013, she was set to direct Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World before she decided against it before Alan Taylor (Terminator Genisys) took over.

On reflection, however, Jenkins says she has no regrets and where everything made sense in regards to Wonder Woman, she didn’t feel the same about the Thor sequel. Speaking to Uproxx, she said:

“I don’t think I could have made a good movie out of ‘Thor 2’ because I wasn’t the right director. And I don’t think I would have been in the running for ‘Wonder Woman’ as a result. And that’s one of the reasons why I’m glad I didn’t do it. Because I could have made a great ‘Thor’ if I could have done the story that I was wanting to do. But I don’t think I was the right person to make a great ‘Thor’ out of the story they wanted to do,”

“I was heartbroken. I was like, oh, what a bummer. But in retrospect it all makes sense.”

In the end, reviews for Thor: The Dark World were decidely mixed but did end up grossing over $644.6million worldwide.

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis and David Thewlis and it arrives in the UK on June 1st.
