Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim inches ever closer, promising to bring with it one of the biggest and most epic blockbusters we’ve seen in some time.
We’ve already been treated to the likes of Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel this year, and things continue to look brilliant for the rest of the year, with much, much more still to come.
After catching an awesome new TV spot for Pacific Rim yesterday, Warner Bros. have released an epic new trailer, in which we get an extended look at Idris Elba’s rousing speech to those standing up against the Kaiju.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Charlie Hunnam and Rinki Kikuchi complete the leading trio alongside Elba, with Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman starring alongside them.
Del Toro is directing from a script he co-wrote with Travis Beacham, with Mary Parent (Godzilla, Noah) producing alongside Thomas Tull (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) and Jon Jashni (The Town, Godzilla).
Pacific Rim will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 12th, promising to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the season. Here’s the latest trailer to get you in the right frame of mind. Enjoy.
