Oz-The-Great-and-Powerful-PosterDisney will soon be unleashing Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful on the big screen, giving us the latest blockbuster from a man who really knows how to make blockbusters.

Raimi’s Spider-Man films alone took .5bn. at the box office, and we’re really looking forward to seeing Oz the Great and Powerful when it lands this March.

We saw a great new TV spot last week, giving us a look at the trio of witches starring in the film. And now the studio have released another brilliant thirty-second spot, teasing more action, more goodness, and more wickedness.

“When Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot – fame and fortune are his for the taking – that is until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity – and even a bit of wizardry – Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.”

James Franco takes the lead alongside Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz, with fine support coming in the form of Zach Braff (who also lends his voice in a dual role), Abigail Spencer, Tim Holmes, and Joey King.

Raimi is directing from a script by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole). And Danny Elfman (Spider-Man) is once more taking scoring duties for the director.

Oz the Great and Powerful will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 8th March in the UK and US. That’s a date that really can’t come fast enough, and it’s sure to be one of the biggest films of the year. And judging by what we’ve seen so far, it will be well worth a trip to the IMAX to see it. For now, here’s the latest TV spot to let you dip a toe in the water.
