After House of Cards proved to be a hit, Orange is the New Black was the second show to really help put Netflix on the map in terms of quality original content. From there, many others obviously followed, but it was really those two which started it all for the online streaming service. As a result, it probably won’t surprise you that the show is going nowhere!

Just days after renewing House of Cards for a fifth season, Netflix has today confirmed that Orange is the New Black is being brought back for at least another three years. While it initially focused in Piper Kerman and her adjusting to life on the inside, the series has grown well beyond that, and now puts the spotlight on the other inmates almost equally as much.

“Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things,” creator Jenji Kohan said in a press release today confirming Orange is the New Black’s three year renewal. “In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life,’ is a curse, but I don’t live in those cultures. “Here’s to keeping it interesting. Thanks Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers… with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!”

Season four of Orange is the New Black will hit Netflix later this year, and it’s going to be interesting to see where things go for the critically acclaimed series over the next few years.
