Olympus-Has-Fallen-Quad-Poster-UKAntoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen is just over a week away from its US debut, hitting theatres next Friday.

The Gerard Butler-led action blockbuster is the first film we’ve seen from Fuqua since 2010’s Brooklyn’s Finest, and we’re looking forward to his return.

The film will be arriving in the UK a little later than its US release date, and ahead of its April release on our shores, Yahoo Movies have debuted a new international trailer, teasing plenty of explosive action sequences that you’d expect from a film centred on an attack on the White House.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart complete the leading trio, with Ashley Judd, Radha Mitchell, Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, Robert Forster, and Rick Yune starring alongside them.

Fuqua (Training Day) is directing from a script co-written by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, with the two making their feature debut here as writers.

The film is the first of two released this year centred on a White House attack, with Roland Emmerich’s White House Down arriving in the height of the summer. Emmerich’s blockbuster will see Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the leading trio, and that’s definitely one to look forward to as well.

Olympus Has Fallen will be landing in the US next Friday, 22nd March, facing some very tough competition from the likes of DreamWorks’ The Croods and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. In the UK, it will be arriving on our shores on 17th April, opening on a Wednesday, giving you the perfect opportunity to go see it with a friend through the usual mid-week 2-for-1 offer. Here’s the new trailer to give you a taste of what we’ve got in store for us.
