It was recently revealed that Disney are moving ahead with a third instalment of Tron despite the fact that 2010’s Tron: Legacy wasn’t exactly a box office hit. With a pretty huge budget, the $400 million it grossed worldwide wasn’t exactly the kind of return that the studio was hoping for. Well, Tron 3 is happening!

Tron: Legacy and Oblivion helmer Joseph Kosinski is set to return, as are that movie’s leads Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund according to The Hollywood Reporter. Shooting is expected to begin in Vancouver this Autumn, and plot details are being kept under wraps so there’s no word on what this one will involve.

A Tron: Legacy sequel has been in the works for years now, but it’s good news for fans of the franchise (which originally starred Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner) that the project is finally coming together.

We actually caught up with Kosinski back in 2013, and he was positive back then that the movie would happen, so this obviously isn’t a sudden decision by Disney. Instead, it appears as if they’ve been working hard to get the story right, and more than likely to try and bring down the budget compared to Legacy.
