The latest addition to the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse is The Newsroom’s Olivia Munn as Betsy Braddock, a character better known to comic book fans as Psylocke. There were rumours that the mutant would be included, but director Bryan Singer announced the casting of Munn via his Instagram account last night.

The character first appeared in the comic books in 1976, but has never had a major role in the X-Men movies. Psylocke did make a cameo appearance of sorts in X-Men: The Last Stand (played by Mei Melançon), but was pretty much just a glorified extra! Fans are hoping that Singer will do her justice in this movie.

As well as returning cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Ian McKellen, X-Men: Apocalypse will also introduce Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lana Condor, Oscar Isaac, Ben Hardy, and a number of others. It’s a very crowded cast!

Munn was most recently seen in Mortdecai and Deliver Us From Evil. She’s currently shooting Ride Along 2.

X-Men Apocalypse is set to be released on May 27th, 2016. Which mutants do we most want to see in Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past follow-up? Well, you can find that out by clicking right here.
