Oldboy-Teaser-PosterRemaking Park Chan-wook’s classic 2003 film of the same name, Spike Lee’s Oldboy is understandably one of the year’s most anticipated movies.

With a stellar cast led by Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen, there’s every reason to be excited that the film will live up to expectations (and then some), and will be one of the few remakes in recent memory that we’ll remember as worthy of being remade.

The first teaser poster was spotted recently out at CinemaCon, and now FilmDistrict have debuted it the hi-res version online, gearing up the film’s campaign ahead of its release towards the end of the year.

An advertising executive is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment, only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Brolin and Olsen are joined by a terrific cast, starring alongside Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Portnow, Michael Imperioli, Lance Riddick, Max Casella, James Ransone, and Hannah Ware.

Lee is directing from a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend), based on the original manga of the same name by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.

Oldboy is set for release in the US on October 11th. No word yet on a UK release date, but keep your fingers crossed that it will arrive on our shores around the same time, because this film can’t come fast enough. And if it premieres out in Toronto or Venice, all the better. For now, here’s the first teaser poster, to whet your appetites.
