So much of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was kept a secret, we’re only just now getting the first official images of Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o) and Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), but they’re extremely welcome, especially as we can now take a closer look at both of these mysterious characters for the first time since seeing them on the big screen.

It was recently confirmed that Maz’s role was cut down as she was supposed to return to the Resistance base with the rest of the heroes. However, Abrams decided that it felt too much like she was there for the sake of it, hence why the scene from the trailer of her handing over Luke’s lightsaber to General Leia didn’t make the final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Snoke meanwhile remains a mystery. Is he just Supreme Leader Snoke or could it be that he’s Darth Plagueis as many fans have suspected? We’ll find out in Episode VIII in 2017!
