Oblivion-IMAX-PosterJoseph Kosinski’s anticipated sci-fi/action blockbuster, Oblivion, is less than a week away from hitting our shores, and I’m really looking forward to seeing Kosinski return behind the camera after his awesome 2010 debut, TRON: Legacy.

Tom Cruise is front and centre here for Kosinski, and I have a feeling this is going to be very big at the box office on both sides of the Atlantic in the coming weeks.

We’ve recently been treated to a brilliant new IMAX featurette, along with now being able to stream the entire Oblivion score by M83. And with its release imminent, a new IMAX poster has surfaced online.

On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Cruise is joined by a stellar ensemble, led by Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Zoë Bell.

Kosinki is directing from a script he co-wrote with William Monahan, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt. And it’s based on the original graphic novel of the same name by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.

The film had its premiere here in the UK last night – you can catch all our UK premiere interviews here – with Kosinski, Cruise, and Kurylenko hitting the red carpet. Cruise’s comments on the way that Kosinski shot the film are absolutely fascinating, and they’re amongst the many reasons why this is one of our Top 10 Must-See Movies this month.

Oblivion will be released in regular and IMAX theatres on 10th April here in the UK, with its US release date set for the following week on April 19th.
