Oblivion-PosterJoseph Kosinski’s Oblivion is less than a week from hitting cinemas in the UK, and two weeks out from its US release date, and things are definitely looking good for the sci-fi blockbuster.

Kosinski made a remarkable debut with TRON: Legacy a few years back, and I can’t wait to see his sophomore effort.

The last we saw from the film was a new featurette and game / app, based on the movie. And now IMAX have debuted a new Behind the Frame featurette, giving us another brilliant look at Oblivion ahead of its theatrical release this month.

On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Tom Cruise is front and centre as Jack Harper. And he’s joined by a great cast, led by Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo, and Zoë Bell.

Kosinki is directing from a script he co-wrote with William Monahan, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt, based on the original graphic novel, Oblivion, by Kosinski and Arvid Nelson.

Oblivion will be released two days earlier than expected in the UK, on 10th April. It will also be getting early IMAX previews in the US on the evening of April 18th, ahead of its wide April 19th US release date.
