Even though Nicholas Cage has made some really dubious choices in projects to appear in, he has also made a fair few cracking ones too. Confirmation has just come through that Cage will be starring in Mandy, an action thriller from Beyond the Black Rainbow helmer, Panos Cosmatos.

The new project, which is due to start filming this summer in Belgium is set in the primal wilderness of 1983, where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life and is being described as “Heavy Metal Story of Demon Bikers”

“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Noah, SpectreVision’s Head of Development. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.”

The film will be produced by SpectreVision’s Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller and Elijah Wood who have given us the likes of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and The Greasy Strangler, XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin and Umedia’s Adrian Politowski and is exec produced by Nick Spicer, Lisa Whalen, Todd Brown, Martin Metz, Peter Bevan, Christopher Figg and Robert Whitehouse with Umedia and Piccadilly Pictures financing.

Cage, who has stated that his reasoning for his poor film decisions in the past are due to owing money so he has to work more often should right at home on the visionary set of Cosmatos – just the very thought of battling biking demons to a soundtrack of Heavy metal combined with Cage’s eclectic wit is a perfectly thrilling notion.
