The first of Universal’s summer blockbusters, Snow White and the Huntsman is an epic retelling of the classic Snow White fairytale that sees Kristen Stewart take on the leading Joan of Arc-esque role in something entirely different to what we’ve seen her play before.

Everything that’s surfaced from the film so far has been very encouraging, and now a new TV spot and behind the scenes featurette have made their way online too, adding to the wealth of awesomeness that we’ve seen to date.

Rupert Sanders makes his directorial debut, working from a script co-written by Hossein Amini (Drive) and Evan Daugherty (making his debut too), and alongside Stewart, we can look forward to a great cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Lily Cole, and Bob Hoskins.

“In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breath-taking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.”

Snow White and the Huntsman will be released in the UK and the US on 1st June, a date that will see it going head-to-head with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. If you’re having difficulty deciding which to go for, I’d recommend both; they both look awesome. Here’s the new TV spot, followed by the featurette, to give you a taste of Sanders’ impressive debut.
